Curriculum

Our Aim

Our mission is to encourage each child to reach their fullest potential. To nurture in each and every child an active lifelong love of learning, which encourages them to realise their aspirations and support them in achieving their dreams. At St. Mary’s we endeavour to make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime!

Education visits and trips are encouraged and are an integral part of the broad and varied curriculum. Children enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Music tuition is available for violin, flute, keyboard and recorder. Trampolining, swimming and gymnastics lessons are provided at Ards Leisure Centre.

Children take part in cycling proficiency, netball competitions, football league competitions and inter-school Technology Challenges. After school activities include choir, football, netball, ICT and art & craft.

Partnerships with parents are encouraged and there are many opportunities for parents to become actively involved in their children’s education and in the school as a whole. News bulletins and information sheets keep parents informed and Curriculum Information meetings help parents support their children’s learning.

Parents have the opportunity to meet teachers in November to discuss their children’s progress and a written report is sent home annually. Parents also sign their child’s weekly maths and spelling tests, thus ensuring that they are kept up to date with their child’s learning. An appointment can be made at any other time during the school year to discuss issues concerning their child’s academic progress or welfare.
